Felt bag for tableware, which was hung on the wall of a yurt. The first item in this culture designed as a bag.
What is it
Ayak kap is a flat felt case with a flap, in which cups and spoons were kept. It hung on the kerege, and therefore its front side was decorated like a wall piece: the pattern is designed for viewing from the side and from a distance.
Why this is important for bags
Nomadic life did not involve wardrobes: everything was stored in bags and cases hung on the walls. Ayak kap, chabadan, korzhun are a ready-made typology of bags invented before the word "bag" appeared. The modern product line continues this tradition rather than reinventing it.
