Tunduk

What is it

Tündük is a wooden ring with a crossbar into which all dome poles converge. Smoke from the hearth exits through it, and light enters. By how the spot of light crawls along the wall, the time of day was determined in the yurt. At night, the sky is visible through it.

Why it is on the flag

Tunduk supports the entire dome: remove it and the house will collapse. It is the only part that cannot be replaced, and therefore it has become a symbol of the home, the family, and the country. The image of the tunduk is placed in the center of the national flag of the Kyrgyz Republic.

Use with caution

Tunduk is a state symbol, not an ornamental motif. Its depiction on a commercial product requires a specific decision, rather than automatic substitution by an engine. Therefore, it exists in the database as an article, not as an open motif.
