Kurak

Курак

Patchwork. Pieces of fabric from different people, collected into one canvas — a wish, not an economy.

What is it

Kurak is assembled from scraps — both one's own and gifted ones. It was believed that an item containing patches from many people carries their good wishes to a child. Therefore, Kurak was used to sew children's blankets and mats, and not just for items where there was not enough whole fabric.
